Proven transcranial therapy for fibromyalgia

Below is a scientific article published in March 2013 in ‘The Journal of Pain’ (officially known as the ‘Journal of the American Pain Society), which addresses the good results achieved by transcranial therapy with electromagnetic fields to treat pain in patients with fibromyalgia. This research supports the treatment we carry out at Viamed Santa Angela de la Cruz Hospital with low intensity electromagnetic fields (LIMS).

Viamed Santa Ángela de la Cruz Hospital in Seville has been using this novel treatment on these patients for more than two years. In fact, it was the first Spanish hospital to apply transcranial therapy with low intensity electromagnetic fields, which is endorsed by the AEMPS (Spanish Agency of Medicines and Health Products), and today obtains positive results in 85 percent of the patients.

More than 1,000 patients have received this treatment over these two years, with positive results in terms of pain regulation. This therapy, which is also being tested in the United States, is increasingly used to treat various conditions, such as fibromyalgia and migraine.

“By knowing the language in which the brain expresses itself and being able to speak to it in its own language, since it uses a magnetic field intensity close to that of the brain’s physiological activity, we can prompt the central nervous system to make the changes needed to achieve improvements in these patients,” says Dr. Blanco, head of the Unit and SHC medical director. Although more and more scientific publications are being released that discuss the benefits and positive results obtained by patients thanks to this new therapy, this modern treatment requires more studies.
